What is interesting is that when you have mentioned your project on gossip blogs I have always thought of only celebrity gossip blogs. Although you do mention those when I clicked on the link that shows the google search I realized that gossip blogs are a lot more diverse that that. I was looking at http://www.opencongress.org/blog and http://starbucksgossip.typepad.com/ which gossip about things other than entertainment stars. I think these blogs really highlight the political aspect of gossip blogs; the idea of open congress is to increase awareness and transparency of government and elected officials (so it relates to the "politics politics" that Nathan talked about too) and the Starbucks one is trying to make people think more about how which corporations they are supporting. Maybe for some people either reading or posting on blogs is an important political or civic action, part of their performance of citizenship.
