Sept 7 Sterne and Tarleton

Of course people are vague when writing about the internet. It’s the good-old, vast, endless, ever-growing internet. Sterne, who doesn’t actually analyze anything about the internet only criticizes the people that are actually trying to do some analysis, points out that cultural studies have thus far been too vague. Big surprise, the internet has a lot going on. I don’t think it’s fair to criticize an analysis without giving your own analysis. Since I have not read most of the articles he mentions and can not judge for myself whether or not they are fair analysis’s I do not know if he is making a fair point and have a tendency to disagree. Sterne is a whiner.
With regards to Tarleton I agree that technology is never neutral. It goes back to determinism. If you could separate culture and technology, sure it would be neutral but that’s not possible. As Tarleton points out, programs like Dreamweaver are tools that can be used and manipulated. They can be advanced for political reasons just like any other tool.
